Home Sports Scores Video TV Games More
Newly formed GRIDSERVE United went into their first game of the season looking match fit and up for the challenge. It looks like they had a great preseason and were more than ready for the Select Rangers stalwarts.
This league is tough and they found themselves trailing 2- 0 quite quickly . Did this deter them? Not likely. With the likes of the skipper McDonald, certainly not old and, even if he has a farm, he was driving his players rather than cattle this time. And they responded! Charley “The Lease” Lees playing out of his skin, swirling motions in midfield and committing the other team with every silky move.
Rebecca Dudman, definitely not a “dud” in this encounter making sure she tidied up the defence when needed and having a massively positive effect in this game.
As you know, pitches in January can be sticky , but this was not even a consideration for the brave United when they scored quickly to make it two one. With half time looming a massive push from the team resulted in an astounding equaliser and Select looked ashen. Jelleyman, the highly experienced forward, took a leadership role, filling gaps where it looked humanly impossible! Even though he follows a lower league team called Spurs or something, he has to receive praise for his performance.
A special mention has to go to Beckwith, although isolated for long periods of time, made his presence felt with a superior performance.
It has to be said, the second half was not easy for United but this is where management kicks in. Highly rated Manager , Paul Sweeney, was not on his tod with the financial backing and excellent leadership of Cruikshank and Buckland. Incredible support from this powerful and passionate triumvirate.
The beautiful game came into its own and United pushed on. Fantastic deliveries from Farrance and Bennet, and with Melanie certainly being on the ball, it was only a matter of time before United went ahead. Could the addition of newcomer Zafar have been the telling difference? Who knows, but at this point it was curtains for the Rangers.
Some contentious decisions throughout , verified by VAR, highlighted the “fair play” attitude of this up and coming side. To a person, their behaviour and honest approach shone throughout. Much to be admired.
Final whistle came and the game ended 3-2 in United’s favour. 3 very valuable points earned and this looks like a formidable team to take on.
All I can say is that the rest of the league needs to be on their toes if they are going to have any sort of success against these players. Understanding, communication, skill and endeavour underpins this teams success. And , I swear, some would sacrifice their salaries to be part of this team.
Look out for the next encounter against AFL AFC. Can GRIDSERVE United follow up this great performance with another? Can’t wait!
